Metallic Epoxy Floors: Where They Work, Where They Don’t, and What They Cost

By Alek·Updated September 2026·4 min read

Quick Answer

Metallic epoxy is a decorative, one-of-a-kind finish that looks like marble, liquid metal, or stone. It shines in garages, showrooms, basements, and entertainment spaces. It’s a poor fit for full-sun exteriors unless topped with a UV-stable coat. In DFW, metallic systems start at $5.99 per square foot.

What Makes Metallic Different

Metallic epoxy uses pearlescent pigments that move while the coating is wet. Installers shape the flow with rollers, sprayers, and solvents to create depth, swirls, and veining. No two floors come out the same — which is exactly why people choose it.

Where Metallic Works Best

  • Garages that double as showrooms or workshops.
  • Showrooms and retail where the floor is part of the brand.
  • Basements, media rooms, and home bars.
  • Covered outdoor areas with a UV-stable topcoat and anti-slip texture.

Where It Doesn’t

  • Full-sun exteriors. Without a UV-stable topcoat, epoxy can yellow. Even with one, lighter flake blends stay cooler outdoors.
  • Wet areas without texture. Smooth metallic is slippery when wet. We add anti-slip additive for garages that see rain-soaked tires.
  • Floors with heavy abrasion. Metallic shows scratches more than a busy flake blend. A tough topcoat helps, but flake hides wear better.

LNM Tip

Pick a base color and a movement style (subtle, veined, or bold swirls), then look at real project photos. Samples can’t show how a whole floor flows.

Metallic Epoxy FAQ — DFW

Smooth metallic can be slippery when wet. We add an anti-slip additive for garages and any area exposed to water.

On covered or shaded areas with a UV-stable topcoat and texture, yes. We don’t recommend it for full, all-day sun.

It shows scratches more than a busy flake blend. A durable topcoat protects it, and felt pads under furniture help.

It will have the same style and colors, but every metallic floor is unique. That’s part of the appeal.
